“We’ll be filming in Wilmington in March, primarily around Wrightsville Beach,” Cairo said. “Greg Kinnear plays a famous novelist who lives in a beach community, thus the attraction of shooting in Wilmington.

Jennifer Connelly has just signed on to be the face of Shiseido’s Future Solution LX premium skin care line, a delightful bit of news, considering the Labyrinth star was once the face of their “Perky Jean Card Club” products back in the ’80s.

Connelly told Women’s Wear Daily she was happy to be back. “I’ve had a long relationship with Shiseido — I worked with them in the 80s on an ad campaign, and have been using their products ever since. It’s nice to reconnect with them after so many years.”

And while we have no doubt Shiseido would love for us to focus on the fact that Connelly will also represent the 140-year-old company as global spokeswoman, we couldn’t help but start digging around for her old ads. Sadly, the beauty brand has been busy — no shortage of YouTube versions informed us that the video had been removed due to a copyright infringement claim filed by (you guessed it!) Shiseido. But that’s okay, because we found one, though it’s in Japanese. Enjoy!

Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Connelly to star in Writers

Writers, the indie feature debut by a fellow called Josh Boone, just scored two shiny stars in Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Connelly. Kinnear will play a big time novelist navigating tricky relationships with his ex-wife (Connelly) and their teen son and college-aged daughter. But how is that Writers pronounced? Ominously? Exasperated, like, “yeesh, writers!” Or just flatly? It’s gonna need some pizzazz to avoid being lumped in with the death of titles.

Following his Oscar win for penning Gus Van Sant’s poignant biopic Milk, screenwriter Dustin Lance Black decided to take to the director’s chair himself to helm his next script, What’s Wrong With Virginia. The drama, which co-stars Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris and Emma Roberts, was completed in 2010, and soon scored a spot at the Toronto International Film Festival. However, there it had a lackluster showing and was subsequently lost amid such high-profile productions as Darren Aronofsky’s Black Swan, Mark Romanek’s Never Let Me Go, and John Cameron Mitchell’s Rabbit Hole. From there, it faded from the spotlight and was left with no promise of theatrical release. However, THR now reports that this has all changed thanks to the Toronto-based, indie distribution company Entertainment One, who has just purchased the rights to distribute the feature throughout North America.

The melodrama, now called simply Virginia, centers on the tumultuous relationship between a mentally unstable single-mom (Connelly) and her lonely teen son (Harrison Gilbertson), who is on a desperate quest to uncover the identity of the father he’s never known. Convinced his real dad is the local Sherriff (Harris), who is by all accounts and upstanding family man, the boy begins some amateur detective work that takes him into dangerous terrain as he falls for the Sherriff’s lovely daughter (Roberts). Toby Jones, Carrie Preston and Yeardley Smith co-star.

Entertainment One (also known as eOne) has announced plans to release Virginia as early as this spring. Dylan Wiley, eOne Films US vp of theatrical marketing and distribution, believes the drama will be a great fit, saying:

“We’re excited to add Virginia to our 2012 slate and thrilled to have found a film that complements both our Canadian and US line-ups so well.”

No specific release date has yet been announced.

Paul Bettany thinks his wife Jennifer Connelly is “mesmerizing”.

The Broken Lines star — who has been married to the actress for eight years — explained while his spouse is “very beautiful”, he finds it frustrating that she always “moves at her own pace”.

He said: “My poor wife. She moves at her own pace — she’s sort of slightly in slow motion, it’s mesmerizing and very beautiful — and I’m like, ‘C’mon, c’mon, we’re going to be late.”

Paul explained his home life has changed since becoming a father to Stellan, eight, and seven-month-old Agnes, as well as raising Kai, Jennifer’s 14-year-old son from a previous relationship, as he turns down movie projects because his kids need to know he’ll be around.

He added in an interview with Observer Food Monthly magazine: “I don’t want to sound like it’s been a sacrifice for me. Sometimes you make decisions to not work and be with your family.

“I have children — they need to know dad’s going to come home.”

However, Paul admitted while as an actor he can make mistakes, the same cannot be said for being a parent.

He explained: “You can fudge a lot as an actor but you can’t fudge being a parent.”

A deal between the Jim Henson Company and comics publisher Archaia to publish graphic novels based on Henson’s creations has already seen adaptations of Fraggle Rock and The Dark Crystal. Now a long-rumoured Labyrinth comic is on the cards, with illustrator Brian Froud, who worked on the original film, to oversee character design and conception.

Released in 1986, Labyrinth told of young girl Sarah’s quest to rescue her baby brother Toby from the labyrinth of the Goblin King, after she wishes the goblins will take him away in a fit of anger. Jennifer Connelly played the part of Sarah, with a big-haired Bowie attempting to seduce her into staying with him in the labyrinth as the Goblin King Jareth: “I ask for so little. Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave,” he says to Sarah. The Archaia graphic novel, due out late this year, will cover Jareth’s past.

“It’s the story of how Jareth is brought into the Labyrinth for the first time. So, it doesn’t deal with Sarah, it doesn’t deal with Toby or anything like that,” Archaia editor-in-chief Stephen Christy told Entertainment Weekly.

“It’s a very tragic story that is the opposite of Sarah’s, which has triumph at the end. It’s a prequel, so we know what happens in the movie. We know how it’s going to end: Jareth is going to be the Goblin King… so we’re showing how he’s pulled into the labyrinth for the first time. It’s going to be cool. We’re switching up the dynamic of it, but what we’re doing is completely true to the spirit of the original.”

With Bowie performing songs for the original film — “You Remind Me Of The Babe” — Christy also hopes to include music in the prequel. “I don’t know if this will work out,” he told Entertainment Weekly, “but I want to do songs where they’re songs being sung (by characters) and we show the notes on the page, so you can actually play along.” And he says he’s “talking” with Bowie about the idea: “The budget to get Bowie to do one song would be the budget of all the books, but we’re talking to him to at least get his blessing or maybe an introduction or something.”

The graphic novel follows a series of manga sequels to Labyrinth, which featured an older Toby as he returned to the Labyrinth to become Jareth’s heir. Christy said that “a whole generation” grew up with the film, and that it was “a big deal to a lot” of people. “It was one of those movies that stays with you from your childhood. We can probably count on two hands the movies that really affected us when we were kids, and I think for a lot of people Labyrinth was one of them,” he said.
